WATER SOLUBLE HYPERICIN

Hypericin complex bound to Polyvinylpyrrolidone

Product name   water soluble Hypericin (Hypericin-PVP)
Product number 500-03-004
Description

Hypericin isolated from Hypericum perforatum complex bound to PVP (Polyvinylpyrrolidone: average molecular weight 25.000). The red, amorphous, resinous powder is good soluble in water, ethanol, methanol. Spectroscopic properties and fluorescence are similar to pure hypericin. For sensibilization of cell cultures and research in photo diagnostic and photodynamic therapy. For investigation of enzyme activity of hypericin in aqueous solutions: hypericin IC50: protein kinase C (1,7 µg/ml), dopamine-beta-hydroxylase (2,5 µg/ml). GABA activated currents are reduced by hypericin, NMDA receptors are blocked by hypericin.
PVP is not toxic to cell cultures.

Storage

Keep cool and dry at 0 – 5°C. Protect from light.

Handling

If you are not fully trained or are unaware of the hazards involved, do not use these compounds! Do not take internally. Wear gloves and mask when handling this product. Avoid contact by all modes of exposure.
Identification UV/VIS-spectrum of hypericin-PVP 1000 mg/l in water (______) and methanol (--------) equivalent to 10mg hypericin per litre water and methanol respectively (figure 1).

Fluorescence

Figure 2 shows excitation and emission spectra of hypericin-PVP. For diagnostic application we suggest excitation in UV regions (340 nm) and detection of emission at 590 nm.
