Description |
Coptisine is an isoquinoline alkaloid isolated from Chelidonium majus. Coptisine has been shown in vitro to be cytotoxic on human tumour colon cell lines (Colombo M.L. et al.: Farmaco 2001; 56 (5-7): 403-409.), on human hepatoma and leukaemia cell lines (Chun-Ching Lin et al.: Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology 2004; 31(1-2): 65-69.). Coptisine shows an inhibitory effect on MAO-A activity (Jai Seup Ro et al.: Life Sciences 2001; 70 (6): 639-645.). It also shows gastric-mucous membrane protection activity (Hirano H. et al.: Biol Pharm Bull. 2001; 24 (11): 1277-1281.). Coptisine inhibits dopamine biosynthesis (Jung Soo Shin et al.: Neurochemical Research 2000; 25 (3): 363-368.). |
