Description:

Natural pigment, which plays a central role in plant photosynthesis.
The molecule is responsible for the conversion of light energy into chemical energy.

Form:

Bluish-black solid, light sensitive and hygroscopic.

Solubility:

Soluble in diethyl ether, acetone, methanol, ethanol.
Not soluble in water.

Storage:

Stored below 0°C solid chlorophyll a is stable for al least one year.

Caution: Solution of chlorophyll a undergoes slow chemical changes when exposed to air and/or bright light.
